What is my Read It Later username and password?
I have the Read It Later Firefox extension but I don't know what my username and password is. How do I find it?
posted by QResolved with Instruction from the Developer:
If you have the Read It Later Firefox extension, you can find your username and password in the options screen.
In version 2.0 and above:
1. Open your reading list
2. Click the options button (cog icon)
3. Select the account tab
4. Click 'Edit my account'
5. Use the user/pass page to change your username and password to something you'll remember
6. Go back to the options window in Firefox, click logout
7. Relogin with your new user/pass
In version 0.9:
1. Open your reading list
2. Click 'options'
3. Select the 'Rss / Syncing tab'
4. Turn on 'Save Online'
5. Turn on Syncing
6. Setup Syncing
7. Choose 'I am syncing for the first time'
The next screen should show you your username and password. Since the randomly generated info isn't very easy to remember you can click 'Change Password' if you'd like to change your username and/or password.

Are you trying to change your username/password to something else or change the account you are syncing to?
In order to change your username, for example, from myUsername1 to myUsername2, you have to login and update it online at:
http://readitlaterlist.com/pass
If you simply want to sync to a different account click the 'Sync to a different account' button and enter in the username/password you want to login with.
Hope that helps!

When I go to RSS / Syncing tab and try to sync to different account, no matter what I do, I get the error message "Sorry but the Feed Id and Sync Password do not match". I have set up a new account and can log in just fine at the website - just can't from the add-in options. Getting frustrated!
Posted Jun 21 09 Version: 0.9945 Browser: Firefox 3.0 reply
I also tried to change my randomly generated account and password, but I kept getting sent back to the login page due to invalid user or password. However, I was copying exactly from the add-in options box. Eventually I figured out I needed to allow cookies from readitlaterlist.com.
So now I can change user/password for the old account, but I can't seem to use the new account, which has the username I was going to actually use.
Maybe there should be a note that says "Cookies must be enabled or an exception must be added to allow readitlaterlist.com."
Guess I'm stuck with choosing a new username, but I still can't figure out why it won't let me change to my new account in the add-ins options box. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Read It Later, to no avail. -

I also cannot login w/ the username/ password combo from the sync page. That widget is simply not working. well. cookies enabled. I disabled xmarks incase there is some floating bug. and I tried to login on Opera w/ the username/password combo-- as well as in firefox. Nada. frustrating. since I want to use readitlater on Opera. Readitlater is very handy; essential when too many tabs open. I"m even ready to disable xmarks when necessary. But this problem is a showstopper.

Hi Nate, I'm using RIL for years but don't know my password. I looked at extension source and about:config but could not find my password anywhere. Look at this picture: http://i30.tinypic.com/2djnv9z.jpg There is no 'Save Online' or "Syncing for first time" option? Where are these options? Please help me ASAP. :-/

Foolishly I clicked through the randomised username and password (in RSS/Sync). Is there any way to retrieve them, or must I simply start another account with RIL?

Hey Nick, I'm not sure what you mean by clicking through them. But since this involves your passwords, let's move this conversation to email, shoot me a line at RIL@ideashower.com

I don't even get an RSS/Syncing tab option
Posted Oct 2 09 Version: 2.0 Beta Browser: Firefox 3.5 reply
I have Account, Offline, Applications, Keyboard Shortcuts, Tweaks, and Help/Support
I also can't find my name/password is it... ?
I manually created one (but not with my preferred user name as it wouldn't let me put the last character in. (It maxed out).)
How do I keep the Read It Later separate from my regular Unread Feeds? (I only have one but it is opened in my e-mail every 15 min and I don't want to have it list all 256+ saved pages.) How do I save more than 10? I have it set to always save pages for offline. Is that enough?
How do you use the Tags?/What exactly are they?
With 256+ pages grouped in my read it later bookmark folder with sub-folders containing groups of pages how do I import them for offline reading without opening each one and clicking the read it later button (again). The good news is I don't have to do a "Save As" and manually save them as I did before. (Those are not included in the 256+).

Re: "Rss/syncing tab option":
The directions above are for the 0.9 version of firefox, I have not written documentation for the 2.0 beta yet. The 'account' tab will cover actions the rss/syncing tab previously covered.
Re: password in this tab:
Read It Later no longer shows the password in plaintext (for security reasons). If you are still logged in but do not know your password, there are some ways we can still retrieve it. Shoot me an email at RIL@ideashower.com
Re: Unread feeds
I wasn't completely clear on this question. Are you talking about using the RIL RSS feed?
Re: Tags
In 0.9, the read it later bookmark folder did not support sub folders. If you have a bookmark folder you need to save to your list, probably the fastest workaround will be right clicking the folder, opening all items in tabs. And then when loaded, right click a tab and select 'save all tabs for later'. With 200+ items this process might be pretty sluggish though.

I am using the 2.0 beta. Re your answer to Arkenstone above, the account tab allowed me to find my username through change username/password, but obviously my password was hidden. How can I find my password? I have never set up a username or password, and my account is not connected to my email, so the password retrieval won't do anything. Private comment hidden

Hey Busybee
Posted Oct 22 09 reply
In 2.0 beta 3 and above:
1. Open the options
2. Click the Account tab
3. Click 'Edit my account' (This opens to a new tab)
4. Click 'Change my username/password'
5. Enter a new password that you'll remember (and optionally change your username)
6. Open the options inside of the Firefox extension again
7. Click logout
8. Click Login
9. Enter your username and new password.
Let me know if you have any problems!
